College news

Warren Area High School graduate and California University of Pennsylvania women’s swim team member Kelsey Nuhfer helped the Lady Vulcans to a victory in their annual Dual Meet Challenge Invitational this past Saturday.

Nuhfer was a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay team that finished in an impressive time of 1:43.17. Nuhfer and teammates would later add a victory in the 400 freestyle relay, winning in 3:45.14.

Nuhfer and the Lady Vulcans return to the pool on Saturday, competing against Carnegie Mellon, Clarion, Grove City and host Pittsburgh at Trees Pool in Pittsburgh.

Warren Area High School graduate and Pitt-Bradford men’s basketball team member Tyler Fantaskey scored eight points in the Panthers’ 61-57 victory over Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday. Fantaskey and the Panthers (9-9) return to action Wednesday when they visit D’Youville.

Schedule change

Because of a scheduling mix-up, the times for the Strong Vincent at Warren freshmen, junior varsity and varsity boys basketball games scheduled for Saturday, February 9, have been changed. The freshmen game will be played at 4:30 p.m. followed by the junior varsity game at 6 p.m. and the varsity contest at 7:30 p.m.

Youth mat

Several Eisenhower youth wrestlers competed and placed at tournaments held on Saturday. In Harbor Creek, Cael Black finished third in the 9-10 year-old, 150-pound weight class. At Union City, the sixth-place Knights got first place finishes from Jeremyah Aiken (7-8 year-old, 80 pounds) and Ethan Chambers (11-12, 125), second-place finishes from Brandon Byrd (6, 50 & under), Mikeal Beaver (7-8, 80), Thomas Baran (9-10, 80) and John Hummell (13-14, 167), third-place finishes from Will Strassburg (7-8, 70), Easton Hedman (9-10, 60) and Justin Repke (13-14, 97) and a fourth-place finish from Jacob Williams (9-10, 60).

Two county members of North East’s Ragin’ Raisins wrestling team competed and placed at the Union City Ring of Fire Tournament Saturday, helping the Raisins to the overall team title. Russell’s Gannon Jaquay was third in the 7-8 year-old, 65-pound weight class and Logan Jaquay was third in the 9-10 year-old, 65-pound weight class.
