GIRLS HOOPS: OC slips past Ike
Playing against a Class AAA opponent, Eisenhower gave Oil City all it wanted and more during a 51-47 Oilers victory Saturday at Eisenhower High School.
The final margin of four was the largest at the end of any one stanza on Saturday night. Oil City led by three points after a quarter, two points at halftime and a single point after the third.
“I thought Holly Chapman (5-of-9) and Kristen Williams (4-of-9) both shot the ball incredibly well,” said Ike coach Mike Logue. “It was a very close game that was tied 47-47 with 1:19 to play.”
The Oilers made a shot with 1:08 to play before back-to-back turnovers put the ball back in the Knights’ hands with 35 seconds left. Chapman narrowly missed a jumper and Halie VanOrd grabbed the board to give Ike another chance. However, the Knights missed the second shot as well and a pair of Oilers free throws iced the game.
A balanced Eisenhower effort was led by Kristen Williams’ 12 points. Holly Chapman also reached double figures with ten points, Brooke Stanton finished with nine and Dakota Williams bucketed eight. Stanton added a team-high nine boards, Halie VanOrd added eight points, six steals and four assists and Kristen Williams added four assists.
Eisenhower (6-9) will try to snap a five-game skid Monday when it visits Cambridge Springs.
