WRESTLING: Dragons invited to D-10 team duals

Warren Area High School’s wrestling team has been invited to participate in the 2013 District 10 Class AAA Wrestling Team Duals scheduled for Thursday at Central Tech High School in Erie.

Warren (13-5) will open with the undefeated General McLane Lancers and the winner of that match will advance to the 7 p.m. finals against the winner of a dual between Titusville and McDowell.

Warren recently defeated Titusville, which had defeated Cathedral Prep and Central Tech, other Class AAA schools from Region 4 that did not get invited. Warren (4-3 in region) is the fourth seed at the team duals and just lost 68-3 to McLane (6-0 in region) last week.

“We know we’re going up against the No. 1 team in the district,” said Warren coach Glenn Baldensperger. “It gives us the opportunity to represent the school there and gives the kids some tight matches in the McLane match.”

It’s the first time Warren has been invited to the District 10 team duals since the Dragons won in 2005.

In addition, it sets up a possible rematch between the No. 1- and No. 2-ranked 126-pounders in District 10 Class AAA in General McLane sophomore Keller Watkins and Warren sophomore D.J. Fehlman. Watkins earned a 7-2 decision last week. This could impact seeding at the D-10 individual tournament.
