Forfeitures

Erie First Christian’s boys basketball team has been forced to forfeit 11 victories earned against PIAA competition this season for not having foreign exchange students on the team approved before the season.

Those victories include wins over Eisenhower on December 11 and Tidioute Charter on December 20. The Knights and Bulldogs will now be credited with victories in those games.

Freshmen hoops

Coming off a pair of close losses to Elk County Catholic and Strong Vincent, the Warren freshmen boys basketball team bounced back Wednesday with a 54-41 victory over Franklin at Warren Area High School.

Evan Suppa and Devin Nowacki led the Dragons with 11 points each, Sheldon McMeans and Logan Galloway scored eight points each and Ryan Skerda finished with six points.

Andrew Gignac contributed four points and Jason Waterfield, Dominic Funari and Mark Reiff chipped in two points each.

Warren (7-3) returns to action Friday, traveling to Meadville.

Clarification

The Cathedral Prep at Warren boys basketball games scheduled for Saturday at Warren Area High School will begin at 1 p.m., not 6 p.m. as was listed in Wednesday’s Sports Briefly section. The junior varsity game will be played first with varsity to follow.

The Ramblers (13-2) upset nationally-ranked Bishop O’Connell this past week.
