Suspect sought in S.G. robbery
Warren-based state police are investigating a robbery that occurred at the Town and Country Food Center in Sugar Grove at approximately 8:45 p.m. Sunday.
On Monday, store manager Patricia Phillips told the Times Observer that an employee was bringing in chairs and tables that were outside Sunday night when she noticed an individual walk past the store with a mask over his face.
The employee, Phillips said, stated that she entered the store and later, while emptying a mop bucket behind the store, noticed a dark red pickup truck parked in the parking lot. Phillips said the employee also described the truck as having a white stripe along the side and some random green or blue spray painting on it.
When the employee re-entered the building, according to Phillips, she said that the individual rounded the corner and told her to give him all the money. Phillips said that the employee began to open the drawer, but before she could hand him the money, the robber reached over the counter and took the whole drawer and fled in the truck.
Phillips said, according to the employee, the robber appeared to have a gun in his pocket, but did not actually reveal it during the robbery.
Phillips said approximately $953 in cash and checks was stolen during the incident.
The state police said in an incident report that the investigation is still underway and that a suspect has not been apprehended.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the state police or Warren County Crimestoppers.
