WRESTLING: 4 Ike wrestlers in quarters at North East tourney
NORTH EAST – Four Eisenhower Knights advanced to the quarterfinal round after the opening night of the North East Tournament Friday at North East High School.
120-pounder Jeb Fedorchuk, 138-pounder Richard Knisley, 145-pounder Louie Head and 195-pounder Jake Johnson will all wrestle in the quarterfinals when action resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
According to coach Kiel Woodburn, all four wrestlers alive in the quarterfinals have tough roads ahead of them.
“We’re really going to see where we stand postseason wise tomorrow,” said Woodburn. “The guys have some tough matches ahead of them. If you can finish in the top six at this tournament, you’ve really accomplished something. It’s a great field.”
Several Ike wrestlers remain alive in the wrestlebacks, including Steven Haner (113 pounds), Tyler Gourley (132), Robbie Wilston (152), Hunter Keppel (220) and Dylan Raines (285).
BURGETTSTOWN, W.V. – As for the 27-team Burgettstown Tournament, Stone Sivak (195) and Jaykup Durlin (220) have both started 2-0 and are in the semifinals for the Youngsville Eagles. When wrestling resumes at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Hayden Victor (1-1), Chandler Flinn (1-1), Chester Ciukaj (1-1), Zach Ishman (1-1), Jeremy Lyon (1-1) and Austin Slocum (1-1) are all alive in the consolation bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
