BOYS HOOPS: Sheffield loses Wednesday

PORT ALLEGANY – Sheffield kept the game close, but ultimately fell short of upsetting Port Allegany, dropping a 44-39 decision Wednesday at Port Allegany High School.

The first-half proved to be the difference in the game with the Gators jumping out to a 27-14 edge by intermission. Sheffield came roaring back in the second half, using a strong defensive effort to get back into the game.

Port Allegany was held scoreless in the third quarter and limited to just 17 second-half points. While the Gators were held scoreless in the third, Sheffield couldn’t take complete advantage scoring just five points in the frame itself.

Gators standout quarterback Matt Bodamer led the Gators on the hardwood Wednesday with 17 points, including four three-pointers. Sheffield received nine points from Dylan Reynolds and Tyler Fitzgerald and eight points from Shequan Wright.

The Wolverines (6-8) are back in action Friday, hosting DuBois Central Catholic.
