GIRLS HOOPS: AC Valley beats visiting Eisenhower

FOXBURG – In the backdrop of a father vs. daughter matchup was a friends vs. friends match-up, as AC Valley starting point guard Erin Logue plays with many of the Lady Knights in summer 3-on-3 tournaments.

While Logue scored 10 points on Wednesday, it was AC Valley’s duo called “The Six-Footers” that led the Falcons to a 55-37 non-region win over Eisenhower at AC Valley High School.

“We got hit pretty good,” said Ike coach Mike Logue, whose daughter plays for AC Valley, of the 24-10 first-quarter start. “I think they were pumped up, excited for the game, and came out and went at us.”

One of AC Valley’s “tall girls,” senior forward Kelsey Boocks, scored 21 points on eight field goals. The other, senior forward Meredith Snyder, added eight points.

Eisenhower trailed 36-14 by halftime.

“We knew if we wanted to win the game, we had to stop (those two),” said Mike Logue.

On the Eisenhower side, Brooke Stanton scored a season-high 13 points, and added four rebounds. Halie VanOrd added four rebounds, and coach Logue said it was special to see VanOrd and his daughter go against one another.

Danielle Bradish had four assists for the Knights (6-6), which are at Maplewood on Saturday.

AC Valley is 3-7 out of District 9.

Port Allegany 61, Sheffield 37

The Lady Wolverines faced a tough test in the form of the North Tier League-leading Port Allegany Gators Wednesday night, as they fell to 6-8 overall with a 61-37 loss at Sheffield High School.

“We got into major foul trouble early in the game,” said Sheffield coach Jeff Labesky. “(Port Allegany) is a really quick team, and they shot the lights out in the first half.”

The Gators (9-3) stormed out to a 22-8 advantage in the first quarter with Sheffield’s leading scorer Jen Isenberg on the bench with three early fouls.

“We made an adjustment at halftime and cut the lead to nine with two minutes in the fourth, we just ran out of gas. Our lack of depth really hurts us when we get in foul trouble,” added Labesky.

Despite playing limited minutes due to fouls, Isenberg led the Wolverine attack with 15 points, while teammate Abby Labesky finished with eight.

Sheffield was defeated in the junior varsity game, 27-25. Tierra Hansen was the high scorer with 10 points.

The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Lady Wolverines, who visit Dubois Central Catholic in another non-league game on Friday.
