College news

Warren Area High School graduate and Pitt-Bradford men’s basketball player Tyler Fantaskey scored six points for the Panthers during a 74-65 loss to Medaille on Monday. Fantaskey and the Panthers return to action Thursday, hosting Penn State Behrend.


A pair of Warren County gymnasts represented the Lakewood Starz gymnastics team in the Warren Invitational hosted by the Warren County YMCA on January 4-5. Morgan Hoffman had a first-place finish in the bars during the event.

Mat rankings

Several Warren County wrestlers are included in the latest District 10 Class AA and Class AAA wrestling rankings released this week.

In Dan Albaugh’s Class AA rankings, Eisenhower 195-pound senior Jake Johnson is ranked second in D-10 at his weight class. Johnson is also the second ranked wrestler in the PIAA Class AA Northwest Region. 120-pound senior teammate Jeb Fedorchuk is ranked fourth in D-10 and fifth in the Northwest Region.

Youngsville’s Jaykup Durlin is ranked third in both the district and Northwest Region in his 220-pound weight class.

According to Rob Coleman’s Class AAA rankings, Warren sophomore D.J. Fehlman is ranked first in both District 10 and the Northwest Region. Teammate Alex Streich is ranked second in D-10 at 220 pounds, Chris McNeal is third in D-10 at 182 pounds, Cody Gunn is ranked fourth in D-10 at 160 pounds and Garrett Smead is ranked fourth in D-10 at 152 pounds. Fehlman is the only Warren wrestler ranked in the top four in the Northwest Region.

Youngsville wrestling

The Seneca at Youngsville wrestling match scheduled for Wednesday at Youngsville High School begins with junior high at 6 p.m., followed by varsity.

Jr. high hoops

Beaty Warren Middle School’s seventh-grade boys basketball team earned a pair of wins on Monday and Tuesday.

Beaty defeated Bradford Middle School, 32-28, on Monday, led by Kohl Nosel’s 14 points. Andrew Davidson added seven points, Mitchell Bryant and Rylan Fitzgerald four each, Elliot Gross two, and Colby Johnson one.

Beaty defeated Sheffield on Tuesday. No score was reported. Fitzgerald led Beaty with eight points, Nosel, Jimmy Lobdell, Ryan Munksgard and Gross scored six points each, Adam Munksgard added four, Adam Irwin three, Andrew Davidson and Nathan Betts two each, and Johnson one.
