Woman’s Club honored

Jan. 4 marked the first meeting of the official Centennial Year of the Woman’s Club of Warren. Appropriately, the honored guest was Representative Kathy Rapp who presented the club with a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives recognizing the 100th year of the organization.

Cate Grant followed with a program of conversation and sharing, an informal look and people and events of the past that have shaped the club. She related stories from members that included remembering a visit from a President to tales of ghosts haunting the house. Sparked by Grant’s stories, many members shared stories from the past. Grant expressed a concern that the club has no official historian/archivist, a problem that should be remedied. Volunteers for the position were solicited with several members showing an interest.

President Tana Fegley thanked hostesses Kathy Masterson and Karen Davis for organizing the meeting and decorating tables in a winter wonderland theme with greens, sparkly snowflakes, candles, and icicles.

Fegley related that December was a very busy month for the club with the Christmas dinner, the Holly House Tour, the Victorian Tea and the raffle all being successful events. With the centennial campaign winding down, the next big project will be a membership drive. Individuals interested in joining the club may contact any member for information.

The Jan. 21 meeting will be an afternoon tea at 2 p.m. featuring a talk by Marcy O’Brien about the Library Theater. A private tour of the building will follow the tea for anyone interested. Reservations are not required for this event but are appreciated so the committee can better plan the menu.
