GIRLS HOOPS: Knights, Dragons tough out non-region wins

TITUSVILLE – Alyssa Peterson scored a season-high 18 points, including 12 points in the second half, in Eisenhower’s 51-38 come-from-behind win over Titusville on Saturday at Titusville High School.

Holly Chapman added 11 of her 12 points in the second half as the Knights improve to 6-4 overall. Titusville is 1-11.

“We started out kind of sluggish,” said Eisenhower coach Mike Logue, whose Knights trailed 23-17 at halftime in the non-region game. “Rocky Grove and rival Youngsville – those were two big games in which we worked hard (earlier in the week). We kept plugging away and we kept telling the girls we would wear them down.”

Eisenhower tied the score to end the third quarter, and outscored Titusville 23-10 in the fourth.

Logue said Chapman grabbed a missed free throw for an offensive rebound and made the putback early in the fourth quarter to give Ike a spark. Chapman finished with 10 rebounds, Peterson nine, and Ike’s tall girls – Peterson, Chapman and Brooke Stanton – combined to shoot 16-of-30 from the field.

Titusville’s leading scorer Carly Kriner scored seven points in the first half, but Halie VanOrd held her to just four points in the second half.

VanOrd added six assists and Danielle Bradish had four steals.
