Richard L. Brown, 77, of 10 Edgewood Dr., Youngsville, died unexpectedly Sunday morning (January 13, 2013) at his residence.
Richard was born February 6, 1935 at home in Sanford, Pa., a son of the late Milton and Marie (Proper) Brown. He attended Youngsville High School and then left to join the Merchant Marines on the Great Lakes. He worked for a short time with PennDOT, then went on to McGinnis Steel in Corry as a Lab Technician, retiring from there in 1989. Richard was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Pittsfield, and the Sandford United Methodist Church in Grand Valley. He enjoyed NASCAR, cutting wood, and working on cars and lawn mowers. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren, especially his three grandchildren that are currently serving in the United States Air Force. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Mabel Morrison Brown, whom he married February 19, 1955 in Titusville, his children, Judi (Rev. Frank) Hodges of Fairview, Pa., Richard (Linda) Brown Jr. of Corry, and Melissa (Brian) Mitchell of Youngsville, a sister Alice (Ernie) McGraw of Venice, Fla., 2 brothers Leonard (Mary) Brown and Milton (Pat) Brown, Jr., both of Pittsfield, 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Jack Brown, Earl Brown, and Kenneth Brown, and 2 sisters, Betty Long and Ruth Nelson.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Pittsfield with Richard’s soninlaw, the Rev. Frank Hodges, pastor of the Weis Library United Methodist Church in Fairview, officiating. Friends will be received on Wednesday in the church from 11: 00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Sanford Cemetery.
