Library benefit set for Jan. 19

The Library Midwinter Benefit – the most successful fundraising event for the Warren Public Library – will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Struthers Library Theatre. This sixth annual event, an evening of socializing, food, drink and entertainment is a great way for community residents to offer financial support for the library. Come on your own, or make plans to join friends for the best wintertime party in town. You’ll be among the first to sign the library’s 140th anniversary registry, meant as a keepsake for Warren’s archives.

The main venue will be the beautiful Library Room at the theater, the site of Warren’s first library which was established by Thomas Struthers, namesake of the Struthers Library Theatre. A cocktail buffet, wine and beer bar, and dessert table will be provided and music will be performed by keyboardist Reese Campbell and local band Egypt Hollow. Food will be prepared under the direction of Dean Wells, Hog Wild Barbecue. Draft beer has been donated by the Mangiones of Crescent Beer. United Refining Company is also an event supporter.

On the mezzanine, donors will find a wine bar and a silent auction with 20 intriguing items including artwork, floral arrangements, jewelry, a quilted library wall hanging, certificates for four hours of limousine service from Sears Luxury Transport, a fresh Maine lobster dinner, and more. Bids will be taken only during the benefit, and successful bidders will be announced at the conclusion of the event at 10 p.m.

Supporters who donate at least $140, the amount determined by this year’s anniversary, will have a book with a special anniversary bookplate imprinted with their name and placed in the library’s collection. During 2013, anyone who contributes $140 or more to the library will be listed in the registry as an “anniversary philanthropist.”

Everyone who attends is invited to choose a hardcover book as a gift of thanks from the Warren Public Library Friends.
