GIRLS HOOPS: Third quarter dooms Sheffield girls
TIONESTA – Sheffield watched a nine-point halftime lead evaporate during a three-point third quarter and fell to 3-5 on the season after a 54-49 loss Wednesday at West Forest High School.
Sheffield appeared to be on its way to evening its record at 4-4 while building a 26-17 lead at intermission, but the Lady Indians piled on 18 points during a Sheffield third that saw only a three-point basket from Abby Labesky.
The Lady Wolverines clawed back and actually regained the lead with just over 90 seconds to play in the game, but a late West Forest three-pointer put West Forest back in front with 20 seconds to go and Sheffield wouldn’t score again.
Jen Isenberg led Sheffield with 22 points and Labesky finished with 15.
West Forest won the junior varsity game, 39-29. Tierra Hansen led the Wolverines with 12 points.
Sheffield returns to action Friday when it visits Elk County Catholic.
